PLANTING REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Planting Time: Late spring to early summer after the last frost has passed.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.
  • Sun Exposure: Full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day).
  • Spacing: Plant tubers 12-24 inches apart, depending on the variety.
  • Depth: Plant tubers 4-6 inches deep with the "eyes" (growing points) facing up.
  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Fertilization: Use a balanced fertilizer during planting and throughout the growing season.
  • Support: Provide stakes or cages for support, especially for taller varieties.
  • Blooming Period: Summer to fall.
  • Maintenance: Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
  • Overwintering: Lift tubers after the first frost, store in a cool, dry place, and replant in the next growing season.
